At Bluebird Care Wexford, we recognise that caregiving experience doesn’t always come from formal employment. Many of our most compassionate and dedicated HCAs began their journey by caring for family members. If you’ve spent at least 12 months caring for a loved one, you could be on your way to becoming a professional HCA with our support!
Your Experience Counts
Many people don’t realise that their informal caregiving experience is highly valuable in professional home care. If you’ve done the following for a relative or loved one, you already have transferable skills:
- Assisting with personal care (bathing, dressing, grooming)
- Preparing meals and ensuring they eat well
- Helping with mobility support (moving around safely)
- Providing companionship and emotional support
- Medication reminders
Turn Your Caregiving Skills into a Career
We know that getting started in healthcare can feel overwhelming, but we make it easy with our supported training programme. Here’s how it works:
- Interview & Assessment – If you meet our informal experience requirements, we invite you for an interview to assess your suitability for the role.
- Subsidised Training – To work as an HCA, you’ll need to complete two QQI Level 5 modules: Care of the Elderly and Care Skills. We offer access to this training at a discounted rate.
- Start Working – Once you complete these two modules, you can start working with us as a Healthcare Assistant.
- Career Growth & Full Qualifications – After six months of employment, we will fully reimburse the cost of your QQI training so you can continue developing your skills.
